In a surprise agreement, Google agreed to buy mobility Motorola $ 12.5 billion, the two companies Monday.
Google is paying $ 40 per share for Motorola's Mobility Holdings (MMI), a 63% premium on its closing price on Friday.
Google said that access to Motorola, which makes phones that work in the Google Android operating system, will be "confined to the ecosystem, and Google Android is designed to increase competition in the mobile arena."
"The total commitment to Motorola's Android Mobility has created a natural fit for both companies," said the CEO of Google, Larry Page said in a statement.
